SCROLL

A sun-soaked escape between the vibrant heart of Athens and the calm of the Aegean coast.

Long before it was a bustling metropolis, Athens was the prize in a battle between the gods. Legend has it that Athena won the people’s hearts with a single olive tree – a gift so fruitful, they named the city in her honour.

Nowadays, thousands of olive trees adorn the historic walkways and sunny squares. On warm afternoons, modern life unfolds in their shade. Couples share freddo espressos, while old gents play fiery games of backgammon over carafes of chilled ouzo

As evening falls, crowds gather in the glamorous rooftop bars overlooking the Parthenon – an ancient marble temple, glowing gold in the setting sun. Here, the present has a way of rising up to meet the past.

Just south of the city, towards the sparkling Aegean, you’ll find the Athens Riviera. A 70-kilometre stretch of coastline where pine-covered hills tumble into turquoise bays and chic beach clubs sit beside sleepy tavernas. Athenians have known about its magic for decades; only recently has the wider world begun to catch on.

Our boutique hotel and apartments in Athens are ideally situated between these two worlds, offering easy access to the vibrant heart of the city and the serene Aegean coast. The only difficult bit is deciding where to go first.

THE LOCATION

The City of the Violet Crown

Perfectly positioned where the city meets the sea, our neighbourhood of Tzitzifies is an authentic slice of Athenian life. Well connected, but away from the crowded tourist hubs, it’s the ideal base to experience the very best of the region.

To the north, Athens’ historic heart is an easy ride away. Head south and the city opens out towards the Athens Riviera – a shimmering stretch of coast fringed by mountains, stylish marinas, turquoise coves and charming seaside towns that culminates in the majestic Temple of Poseidon rising above the Aegean.

For those keen to explore the islands that hover on the horizon, Piraeus Port is the ultimate launchpad. Located just a short journey from the hotel, it offers daily ferries ready to whisk you away to Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, and beyond.

Long favoured as a relaxing escape for local Athenians, the wider world is just waking up to the allure of the Athens Riviera – and with an ever-growing array of amenities sitting alongside captivating old-world culture, we can confidently say it’s entering its most exciting chapter yet.

Situated between the city and the sea, our Athens hotel and apartments offer easy access to an abundance of excellent eateries. Whether you fancy slow mornings browsing artisan bakeries in the shadow of the Acropolis, or long lunches in the picturesque Mikrolimano harbour, it’s all just a short hop away.

Our local neighbourhood is home to plenty of charming tavernas – unfussy, independent restaurants serving classic Greek cuisine and fantastic local wine. Right next door is Raki Meze, famed for its fresh ingredients and generous sharing plates. Another nearby favourite is Argoura, where the beloved chef-owner Niko cooks up seafood with creative flair against a lively backdrop of vintage decor and jolly local diners.

If world-class fine dining is your thing, check out Delta at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), close to our Athens accommodation. It’s the only restaurant in Greece to hold two Michelin Stars and a Michelin Green Star, serving up dishes with a radical focus on sustainability, framed by suspended indoor trees and expansive views of the Saronic Gulf.

There’s no better way to spend a balmy morning than watching the world go by in one of Athens’ sprawling plazas, sipping a freddo espresso – the country’s legendary take on iced coffee. As the midday heat builds, join the locals on the Athens Riviera cooling off after a swim in the Aegean with an iced Greek Mountain Tea, infused with fresh lemon and honey.

Then, as golden hour approaches, drift to a beachside terrace for a sundowner of your choice. Or, head to the centre to discover some of Europe’s best cocktail bars, where bartenders re-imagine the classics using local ingredients.

For something a little more intimate, wander down the city’s labyrinth of narrow residential streets to discover hidden artisan microbreweries and chic listening bars. Beloved by the young, creative crowd, these low-key haunts serve up craft beers and small-batch Greek natural wines in cosy spaces brimming with atmosphere.

Right on our doorstep, you’ll find the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC), a striking glass complex that houses both the National Library of Greece and the National Opera. Spend a morning ambling along the footpaths which wind past fountains and sculptures toward a sprawling park, where movie screenings and festivals come alive on the Great Lawn. Families will love the endless lineup of free activities, from playgrounds and water jets to running tracks, yoga sessions, and kayaking on the canal.

A short ride into the city, you’ll find the Acropolis: Athens’ headline act and a true wonder of the ancient world. Ascend the slope up to the Parthenon – the majestic temple standing proudly atop it – to admire the colossal marble pillars up close and the breathtaking views across the city to the glittering Aegean beyond.

While the whole place feels like an open-air museum, with archaeological sites scattered around the city, there are plenty of indoor ones too. Among the finest is the Benaki Museum of Greek Culture, housed in a neoclassical mansion, where fashion designers flock to gather inspiration and talk ideas over coffee on the roof terrace.

For those seeking adventure beyond the city limits, head to Vouliagmeni on the Athens Riviera for a hike along the dramatic honeycomb ridge and a dip in the lake below. Fed by underground thermal springs, the mineral-rich waters remain a balmy 25°C year-round and are home to tiny fish that gently nibble at your toes to complete the spa experience.

When it comes to nightlife, our Athens accommodation sits at the ultimate crossroads of several distinct after-dark experiences.

Right on our doorstep, you’ll find relaxed local bars, including many rembetiko venues where soulful folk music is played live, perfectly paired with carafes of wine and ouzo.

For a big summer night out, the Athens Riviera beckons with its legendary beach clubs – big, open-air venues right on the sand where international DJs spin under the stars.

Or, head straight into town to dive into the city’s lively urban nightlife. The centre is home to many incredible rooftop bars overlooking the ancient Acropolis, where you can enjoy a drink or two while gazing at the 2500-year-old citadel lit up against the night sky.
